Hijri Date Converter

What is this tool?

A date converter for the Hijri and Gregorian calendars. Pick a Gregorian date to get its Hijri equivalent, or enter a Hijri day, month and year to get the Gregorian date. It supports the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia and the civil (tabular) calendar, shows the weekday in English and Arabic, and lists the Islamic New Year, Ashura, the start of Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, the Day of Arafah and Eid al-Adha for that year. The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

When to use it

  • Finding today's Hijri date
  • Converting a date of birth or a marriage date from Hijri to Gregorian for official forms
  • Checking when Ramadan and Eid fall in a given year
  • Reading a Hijri date on a document, certificate or old record
  • Planning travel, leave or events around Islamic holidays

How to use it

  1. 1Choose Gregorian → Hijri or Hijri → Gregorian
  2. 2Enter the date, or press "Use today's date"
  3. 3Pick the calendar: Umm al-Qura for Saudi civil dates, or the civil calendar for a fixed arithmetic result
  4. 4Read the converted date, the weekday and the Arabic form
  5. 5Check the key dates list for Ramadan, Eid and other occasions in that Hijri year

Frequently asked questions

Which calendar should I choose?

Umm al-Qura is the official civil calendar in Saudi Arabia and is the usual choice for documents and everyday use. The civil calendar is a fixed arithmetic cycle, so it can differ from Umm al-Qura by a day. If a form names a calendar, use that one.

Why is the date a day different from what my country announced?

This tool calculates dates. Many countries begin Ramadan and the Eids by sighting the new moon, which can land a day before or after the calculated date. For religious dates, follow your local religious authority.

Why does it say my Hijri month has only 29 days?

Hijri months last 29 or 30 days depending on the moon, so day 30 does not exist in every month. The tool tells you how long that month is in the calendar you chose.

What dates can it convert?

Hijri years 1300 to 1600 and Gregorian dates from 1883 to 2174, which is the span the browser's built-in Umm al-Qura data covers.
