Reduce Heavy Reverb in a Recording
Reduce Heavy Reverb in a Recording
About this option
A church hall, stairwell or bathroom can leave a recording washed out with reverb. This page opens the de-echo tool at a strong setting: more dynamics processing, tighter low and high filtering and a higher noise floor, trading some naturalness for clarity.
When to use it
- A recording from a large or empty room is washed out
- A dictation or lecture captured from the back of a hall is hard to follow
- Making speech more intelligible rather than perfectly natural
How to use it
- 1Drop your recording — the strong setting is already applied
- 2Compare the processed version with the original
- 3Ease the intensity down if the voice sounds thin or pumping, then download
Frequently asked questions
Why does the result sound thinner?
Stronger filtering removes low and high frequencies where much of the room's wash lives, which also thins the voice slightly.
Can reverb be removed entirely?
Not with this tool. Specialist dereverb software uses far heavier processing. Treat this as an improvement in clarity.
Is it better than the moderate setting?
Only for very reverberant audio. For mildly echoey speech, use the moderate setting for a more natural sound.
