Sanitize PDF

What is this tool?

A PDF sanitizer that runs in your browser. It lists the metadata, embedded files, JavaScript and comments inside a PDF, removes the kinds you choose, and drops anything left over from earlier edits from the file itself rather than just hiding it. The pages are not touched.

When to use it

  • Removing your name and the software you used before sending a document to a client
  • Taking attachments out of a PDF you received before forwarding it
  • Stripping scripts and auto-run actions from a file you don't fully trust
  • Clearing comments and review notes before publishing
  • Checking what a PDF reveals about who made it and when

How to use it

  1. 1Drop in a PDF — the tool lists what it carries
  2. 2Tick what to remove: metadata, embedded files, scripts, comments, private app data
  3. 3Click Sanitize PDF
  4. 4Read the summary of what was removed, then download the clean file

Frequently asked questions

Does this change what the pages look like?

No. Text, images and drawings are left exactly as they are; only the hidden data around them is removed.

Is the removed data really gone, or just hidden?

It is dropped from the file. Objects that are no longer part of the document are deleted rather than left in the bytes.

Will it keep my links and form fields?

Yes — links and form fields are kept. Only comments and markup are removed, and only if you tick that option.

What about digital signatures?

Editing a PDF invalidates any signature it carries. Sanitize first, then sign.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No — it's processed entirely in your browser.
