PDF to Markdown
PDF to Markdown
What is this tool?
A PDF to Markdown converter. It reads the text layer with pdf.js, treats lines set in larger type as headings, groups lines into paragraphs by their spacing, and turns bullet and numbered lines into list items. It is a best-effort reading order: tables, multi-column layouts, bold and italic aren't reconstructed.
When to use it
- Moving a report or article into a Markdown note-taking app
- Preparing a PDF's text for an LLM or a documentation site
- Pulling the outline of a long document out as headings
- Copying text from a PDF without the line-break mess
- Turning a PDF handout into editable text
How to use it
- 1Drop in a PDF
- 2Click Convert to Markdown
- 3Check the result in the preview
- 4Copy it, or download the .md file
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Only if they have a text layer. A pure scan is just pictures — run OCR on it first.
Will tables convert?
No. Table cells come out as lines of text. Check tables by hand.
How are headings detected?
Lines set noticeably larger than the document's body text become headings, with bigger type mapping to higher levels.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No — the text is read entirely in your browser.
